RESULTS OF JANUARY 31st COMP
The second comp of 2026 was a case of groundhog day with
decent weather after an original doom and gloom forecast at the beginning of
the week and frankly rubbish fishing. The repetitive conversation of how dire
fishing at this time of year was in the past when a bag of rockling or an
individual fish was enough to win!! Well thankfully Max and Pete have found a
few fish. 17 adults and 1 junior could only find 22 fish consisting of 2
congers, 2 bass, 2 whiting, 1 shore rockling and 15 LSD FOR 43LB 14oz.from 9

RESULTS OF JANUARY 17th COMP
First comp. of the year was greeted with a decent forecast and a lively but fishable swell at the back. However with a shift in the wind to NE beaches that only a couple of nights previous had been alive with dogs turned into virtual desserts. 19 adults and 1 junior could only manage 28 fish!!! consisting of 21 LSD, 3 congers, 2 whiting, 1 pout and 1 dab of 11oz by Lee Wyatt and no one can remember the last one in a comp for 52lb.

PLEASE READ
Although we are yet to fish our last couple of comps of 2024
it is important to update members on proposals for 2025.
Firstly membership will remain at £10 and £1 for
juniors.Comp. fees will remain at £6 for adults and £3 for juniors.
Members will also be able to sign on at Ryde Bait and Tackle
1) Stingrays, tope, spurdogs and undulate rays can not be
brought back to the weigh in and can only be catch and release.
( the possibility of photographic evidence for lone anglers
is up for debate).
2) Smoothounds have long been a topic of ongoing discussions among clubs, with high size limits implemented to try and minimize the impact but it is clear you cannot beat a bag of hounds. To level the playing field comps in May to Sept(inc) bags of smoothounds will be separated from bags of all other fish. 10 points will go to the heaviest bag of hounds reducing down to 1
and the same for bags of other fish. Entry to the comp.
means the member is automatically entered in both and can gain points from
both.
Payout will be for (£1.50 per adult entry) heaviest bag of
each. Heaviest fish and best specimen remains the same and will be over all.
3) Size limits for smoothounds will be 6lb and tope 10lb.
4) To keep up with tech. the use of drones, bait boats etc
is not permitted.
Tight Lines
Rod
WWAC has always been at the forefront of catch and release but members are required to get eligible fish weighed on electric scales that are zeroed, identified (if in doubt take a picture) and if necessary measured by a member or member of another recognised club. The fish card should then be signed either for each fish or for multiples(normally LSD's).It is the responsibility of the angler to add up the card and present at the weigh in for checking and adding any other fish which are not carded. If you are fishing on your own or without scales etc your fish need to be brought back to the weigh in. If in doubt please ask me.
Tight lines
Rod
All 18 members who were elligble to fish signed on and with
Les having to work the remaining 17 all weighed in. The awfull forecast issued
in the run up was amended for the rain to stop around 8 and continue after 11
which surprise surprise they were almost spot on. The change in weigh in
location was warranted and gave a dry venue to do the prize giving.
Congratulations to Sam on her continuing good form after
winning the last comp she picked up the £150 first prize. The remainder of the
members had the choice of the prize table which together with the first prize
was funded by £233 from the years comps, £200 from WWAC and £260 from the
nights entry.Together with the generous discounts from East Cowes Angling and
Ryde bait and Tackle.

My thanks go to Paul for the weigh in and all who braved the
weather. I hope that next year we might be blessed with better luck with the
weather and fishing.
The split weight with smoothounds will continue next year
and fixtures will be released as soon as is practicle. Sign on for next year
remains at £10 and is available at East Cowes and Wight Angling Sandown.
Whilst new members are welcome it is an application and can
be objected to by current members.

17 anglers signed on for the final comp. of the year and
whilst the weather forecast was fairly accurate the swell was way above the
forecast which forced most anglers to move to the Solent at some stage where
they were greeted by no wind and flat calm conditions. 9 anglers returned 43
fish for 104lb 141/2oz consisting of 32 LSD, 4 congers, 1 bass, 1 bull huss and
1 black bream.
Congratulations to
the Williams family with Gareth retaining the Championship having lead from
start to finish and Sam who landed her biggest fish and the heaviest fish
during club comps this year with a conger of 22lb 10oz.

The penultimate shore comp of 2025 saw a consistant sign on
of 17 adults and 1 junior greeted by mild conditions that for once allowed the
freedom to fish any venue that you fancied. The fishing
however lacked a certain amount of quality but demonstrated
that some winter species are starting to move in whilst many summer associated
fish still remain.
12 anglers returned 70 fish for 68lb 11oz consisting of 36

I would appreciate members views on whether we continue with
the smoothound split bag approach over the summer period or we revert back as
before.
Also should we introduce a couple of fixed or restricted
venues as part of the calendar which would increase a more inclusive club
approach? FEED BACK WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

17 adults and 1 junior signed on for the latest comp with
conditions yet again making the Solent the only realistic area to fish. This
was the last comp which saw a split bag result and it would be good to get feed
back from members as to whether or not to continue with this next year or
not? Also do you want all comps to be
rovers? 11 anglers weighed in 31 fish consisting of 15 black bream 12

NEXT COMP October 18th
16 adults signed on with most opting to fish the Solent.
Crabs fresh or frozen are currently in short supply but at the moment the weed
isn't as bad but with buiding tides this may not continue. On the night both
the weather and the fishing could be described as O.K. 10 anglers returned fish
but several anglers did catch but were unable to return their fish as no other
angler was available to sign their card. I did say at the begining of the year
that a solution to this was open to discusion and I hope something can be in
place for next year.
33 fish were recorded consisting of 21 smoothounds,4 black
bream, 3 pout, 2 bass, 1 ballan wrasse, 1 LSD, and 1 rockling for 159lb 8oz. No

A sign of 17 adults and 1 junior had a tough and for most
unproductive evening. The weather during the week had seen moderate winds and
high temperatures but Saturday saw strong westerly winds and forecast of

5 anglers returned 13 fish consisting of 11 hounds, 1 pout and 1 black bream

tight lines Rod
An entry of 15 adults and 1 junior fished with 13 returning
15 hounds, 9 LSD, 3 bass and 2 congers for 156lb 10oz. Whilst well down on the
previous comp fishing was tough for many with the back being too rough and the
curse of the Solent (weed) making it tough for many.

A solid entry of 19 adults and 1 junior signed on with 11
returning fish. Most opted to fish the Solent as the back hasn't produced of
late due to the calm conditions water clarity, easterly winds and high pressure.
This was the first comp with a split bag in operation but
with most opting to fish for hounds it was more of a bycatch than opting to
target other species. 31 hounds, 15 LSD, 3 bass and 1 pout for 279lb with only
2 hounds in double figures but with an average size of just under 8lb.

RESULTS OF MAY 25th COMP
After a 6 week break it was back on the beach with an entry
of 20 adults and 1 junior braving the elements. Did it rain!!!
Now as most members are aware both East Cowes Tackle and Odessa Angling have or will cease trading for very different reasons. Both have provided a sign on facility and support for the club so may I take this opportunity to thank them both. To fill the void Slam Fishing in St. Thomas Square will be taking sign ons for the foreseeable future. Thank you.

RESULTS OF OCTOBER 14th COMP
16 anglers signed on for the penultimate comp of the year. After
gale force winds on Friday conditions were starting to settle down and
conditions were considered to be good by most with anglers opting for a variety
of locations. 13 anglers weighed in 37 fish for 121lb which consisted of 7
bass, 6 bream, 5 pout, 6 LSD, 3 painteds, 3 bull huss, 3 congers, 3 pollack and
1 undulate ray.
1st Paul Hollingshead 30lb 6oz (1 undie,1 conger, 3 LSD, 2

This means that Mark stays in the lead going into the last
comp.but mathematically any of the top 5 anglers can win.
With this in mind to maintain integrity can all anglers who
sign on for the last comp (Nov 4th) and catch weigh in. This comp. now clashes
with the 22hr comp
being run by Wight Angling. Please support this comp if you
so wish but our comp will be run as normal including the weigh in. WWAC is a
MAX of 2 rods 3 hooks the 22hrs is 1 rod
3 hooks.
The top 15 anglers
have all qualified for the members xmas comp which is FRIDAY Dec 15th
19.00.23.00 entry £10 and Dean Walls Gardening has kindly donated £50. Many
